- De originele titel luidt: La Beauté: Assise sur un nuage, au milieu des airs, La Beauté sous la forme d'une jeune Déesse, porte ses regards vers le ciel pour contempler les beautés célestes, et tient d'une main des lis et des roses, symboles de la pureté, de la candeur et de la beauté, tandis qu'elle étend l'autre main sur un paon, regardé comme le beau des oiseaux. Het werd geschilderd op bestelling van de directie van de Gentse Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten en werd geëxposeerd op de Gentse Salon van 1829 (nr. 1).
