Description:
Maria met Kind, zittend op een troon in een architecturale nis en omgeven door heiligen en musicerende engelen, was een geliefd Florentijns thema, in het bijzonder voor grote altaarstukken. Op klein formaat, als devotiestuk voor huiselijk gebruik, komt het zelden voor. Vermoedelijk is dit paneeltje een vroeg werk van Biagio di Antonio, wat de eenvoudige vormgeving en de enigszins archaïserende uitvoering kan verklaren. Later werk van de kunstenaar getuigt immers van een groter vakmanschap: de figuren zijn realistischer uitgewerkt en geplaatst in een landschap.
