Description:

Het miniatuurschilderijtje van Simon Bening toont ons Maria die Jezus liefdevol in haar armen drukt. Het Kind vlijt zich tegen zijn moeder aan en streelt haar kin. Dit type voorstelling van Maria met Kind gaat, net als de gouden achtergrond, terug op Italiaans – Byzantijnse voorbeelden. Of het miniatuur uit een boek werd gesneden of als een zelfstandig devotiestuk was bedoeld, is niet bekend.
