Description:

Edgard Tytgat nam zijn omgeving vaak tot onderwerp van zijn schilderijen. Zowel interieurs en straatgezichten, als panoramische stads- en dorpsgezichten komen veelvuldig in zijn werk voor. In 1924 vestigde hij zich in Sint-Lambrechts Woluwe bij Brussel. In dit schilderij zien we het huisje aan de overkant van de woning van de kunstenaar. Tytgat ging nooit volledig op in het expressionisme. Hij bleef zijn poëtische, wat naïef aandoende stijl trouw met soms, zoals hier, nog reminiscenties aan zijn vooroorlogse fauvistische periode.
