Description:

De abstracte beweging in België ontstaat in Antwerpen en in Brussel tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog. In Brussel is er op dat ogenblik een andere groep abstracte kunstenaars actief, zoals René Magritte en Pierre-Louis Flouquet. Vanaf 1921 sluit Servranckx zich aan bij het Brusselse abstracte modernisme en bleef nadien zijn hele leven trouw aan zijn opvattingen over beeldende kunst. Op die manier wordt hij ongetwijfeld de meest interessante figuur van de abstracte richting in België. Soms is zijn werk gebaseerd op gestileerde elementen uit de wereld van de industrie en de mechanica zoals hier in Haven – Opus 2, meestal is het echter zuiver abstract.
