- De Franse kunstenaar Paul Leroy (1860-1942) werd gevormd aan de Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Parijs. Hij was een leerling van Alexandre Cabanel. Hij nam deel aan verschillende salons.en behaalde er verschillende prijzen. In 1884 werd hij laureaat. Hij behaalde ook de prix de Rome. In 1893 was hij stichtend lid van de Société des Peintres orientalistes. Hij kreeg bekendheid als portret- en landschapsschilder, oriëntalist en illustrator.
