- Description:
- In 1887 en 1888 etste James Ensor enkele havengezichten in Nieuwpoort, maar vooral bij de havengeul in Oostende. Zoals de geëtste landschappen zijn het studies van lichtspelingen, in dit geval op boten en sloepen. De Oostendse haven inspireerde Ensor tot twee van zijn meest voldragen grafische composities: het Whistleriaanse “Grote dok” en “Gestrande schuiten” (resp. inv. 1998-B-45 en 49).
