- Hippolyte Daeye had een voorliefde voor het schilderen van portretten. Hij is de schilder van het intieme. Zijn kunstwerken ontstaan in de beslotenheid van zijn eigen atelier en binnen zijn gezin. Hij was nochtans goed op de hoogte van het reilen en zeilen in de kunstwereld en verdedigde vol vuur de artistieke evoluties van zijn eigen tijd. Die dualiteit is kenmerkend voor zijn persoon.
