- Vanaf het midden van de jaren 1970 fotografeert de kunstenaar atypische zelfportretten met een complexe gelaagdheid. De kunstwerken van Jan Vercruysse zijn niet eenvoudig te vatten. Ze zijn gewild hermetisch van aard. Als kijker moet je een lange weg afleggen, diep nadenken en over voldoende bagage beschikken om het werk te doorgronden. Zijn kunst nodigt uit tot reflectie en rust.
