- Guillaume Vogels zocht inspiratie in landschappen, marines, stillevens en stadsgezichten waarbij de weergave van de atmosfeerindrukken hem meer boeiden dan een statische, anekdotische uitbeelding van de realiteit. Dit strandgezicht ontleent zijn vorm aan de structuur en de brede, zware verftoetsen. De schetsmatige figuurtjes accentueren de weidsheid van het tafereel. Vogels ontpopte zich hier als een uitzonderlijke colorist. Hij was een van de eersten in België om de verf rechtstreeks op het doek te mengen. Hoewel de compositie een duidelijke structuur heeft, geeft de schetsmatige manier van schilderen de indruk van een momentopname.
