- Omwille van de fotografische nauwkeurigheid waarmee hij zijn modellen weergaf werd Gustave Van de Woestyne een veel gevraagd portretschilder. Hier zien we Roos Van Wijnendaele, de grootmoeder langs moederskant van de kunstenaar Edgar Gevaert. Op het moment dat Van de Woestyne haar portretteerde was ze bijna 100 jaar oud. Opvallend in de meeste van Van de Woestyne’s portretten is, zoals ook hier, de haarscherpe weergave van het gezicht en de handen terwijl de kleding minder in detail is uitgewerkt. De bleke, lege achtergrond waarop de figuur zich duidelijk aftekent is eveneens een werkwijze die de kunstenaar geregeld toepaste.
