- In 'De Langestraat te Oostende' worden we geconfronteerd met eenzaamheid. De straat is verlaten. Er staat iemand op het kruispunt van straten maar die persoon staat er helemaal alleen. Het personage is nietig ten opzichte van de hoge huizen in de straten. Constant Permeke verhuisde in 1921 van de Vuurtorenwijk naar de Langestraat in Oostende. In dit schilderij erkennen we de invloed van Gust De Smet maar ook van de film.
