- Net zoals in De Van Iseghemlaan onder de sneeuw (SM000864) zien we de Oostendse laan vanuit Ensors ateliervenster. Maar er is veel veranderd: de verkommerde koninklijke stallen hebben plaats geruimd voor een riant schouwburgcomplex waarvoor Alban Cambon de plannen tekende. Oostende, de "Koningin der Badsteden", is op het toppunt van haar roem. Minstens even spectaculair is het stijlverschil met de versie uit 1881: Ensor heeft zijn briljante impressionistische toets verlaten. Het schilderij uit 1906 geeft een wat moeizaam realisme in een flets palet te zien.
