- Het thema van deze ets is de nederlaag van koning Darius III in een veldslag tegen Alexander de Grote in 331 voor Christus. Ensor verplaatst de veldslag van Guagamela naar het imaginaire Arabela. Naast een fantasievolle ets gaat het hier ook over een satire op de geneeskunde. Het clair-obscur en het oriëntaalse kader van Rembrandt dienden als voorbeeld en inspiratie.
